Payments as an Identity Graph: The Social Feed

Supporting the data layer where transactions become searchable social context

The Client · A leading peer-to-peer payments platform

Financial Services & Fintech
01

A leading peer-to-peer payments platform engaged Taller for a multi-year, multi-pod engineering engagement spanning the social feed, merchant checkout, and payments infrastructure. Taller’s footprint here was the deepest fintech engineering engagement in its portfolio.

02

The platform’s social feed paired every payment with social context: names, notes, emoji, identity, and the friend graph, effectively linking each transaction to people. At consumer-finance scale, that required data-infrastructure engineering to support user search, feed generation, and the social-graph layer without compromising the integrity of the underlying payments system. The architecture had to separate the immediate recording of a payment from the slower work of building the feed, and the data had to carry enough context with each payment event for the feed to be assembled without re-reading the core transaction store.

03

Taller engineers contributed to the platform’s data-infrastructure layer, the systems that powered user search, the social-graph index, and the feed-generation pipeline. Taller delivered the mobile and backend team that supported the Business Profile launch on iOS, Android, Python, and MySQL, with several site-reliability specialties (networking, data platform, security, and incident response) sustaining the broader engagement.

04

The Business Profile launch was delivered ahead of schedule, meeting the platform’s monetization goals. The platform processed hundreds of billions in total payment volume across tens of millions of customers. These outcomes belonged to the platform’s product strategy; Taller’s contribution was the data-infrastructure foundation beneath the feed and social graph.
