DevSecOps, SRE, and CloudOps Inside a Hybris Environment
Improving reliability, security, and release discipline around a critical commerce estate
The Client · A Fortune 500 industrial MRO distributor

Overview
A Fortune 500 industrial MRO distributor engaged Taller across two long-running workstreams: SAP Commerce engineering behind the transactional channel and BI and data engineering behind enterprise reporting.
The Problem
The client’s Hybris commerce environment faced pressure from three directions at once: security vulnerabilities flagged by the scanning tools Veracode and Snyk, production bugs slowing releases, and new API demands from other business systems. In a mature Hybris deployment, the vulnerability backlog never fully clears — each new version brings new software dependencies faster than the old ones can be fixed. The client needed to bring this under control and keep the platform releasable.
The Solution
Taller’s team built new APIs in Java and Spring, sped up the development environment for faster feedback, and coordinated across the middleware, frontend, QA, architecture, and business teams. To manage the vulnerability backlog, the team prioritized findings by how exploitable they actually were rather than by raw count, and ran a rotating remediation schedule to keep the backlog from growing. SonarQube and Rapid7 worked alongside Veracode and Snyk for code quality, vulnerability detection, and ongoing monitoring. Because most production bugs traced back to the Spring layer where the client’s custom logic lived, new API work was built with several years of maintenance in mind.
The Impact
- Laid the groundwork for a shift to microservices, supporting new features including AI-powered visual search (customers upload a photo to add items to their cart)
- Resolved critical security vulnerabilities and built a data-driven security program using automated Jira reporting alongside SonarQube, Rapid7, Veracode, and Snyk
- Improved engineering workflows and collaboration across the middleware, frontend, QA, architecture, and business teams
- Standardized estimation practices across engineering pods, improving consistency in velocity tracking and sprint planning
