WCAG-Compliant Design System and Accessibility-First Component Library

A leading grocery delivery platform engaged Taller to audit its components against WCAG standards (the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, the international standard for making digital products usable by people with disabilities) and build an accessibility-first design system and component library.

Accessibility was not a feature but the underlying compliance-and-usability discipline that determined whether the platform was genuinely usable by everyone the brand said it served. Retrofitting accessibility into a mature product cost more than designing the components correctly the first time, and the client had to absorb the audit-and-update work without disrupting its existing surfaces.

Taller audited and updated the client’s components to meet WCAG standards, built the scalable component library with documentation, and ran the usability testing that validated each component against those criteria. The Figma component library was the visible deliverable, but the durable work was the documentation describing how each component behaved across the WCAG dimensions – keyboard navigation, screen-reader semantics, color-contrast ratios, focus-state visibility, and motion-sensitivity controls – together with the audit method that let the design system take on new components without losing that discipline. The animation work in Lottie Files and After Effects was a second layer of accessibility consideration, because motion in a consumer product affects users with vestibular sensitivity (a sensitivity to movement that can cause dizziness or nausea) in ways static designs do not.
